General Conference – Day 2

The second day opened before us like a beacon of hope: Blessed Sacrament and Visitation Provinces shared, in depth, the life that inhabits them, their challenges, their mission and the way in which each sister, with quality and depth, contributes to the fabric of their diverse ministries and social justice. I was moved to see how the certainty of God’s company sustains their path of prayer and action in the contributions of each committee and work team.

While remaining faithful to who we are, we discover the richness that inspires us and drives us to put our gifts at the service of the entire Congregation. This double current of contemplation and commitment flows like a river that fertilizes the common land that we tread on.

Looking at this journey together, I felt that the Divine Gardener—that sowing God—invites us to stop, recognize the furrow already plowed and sow with courage the plot entrusted to us. “I compare this Community to a plot in the large garden of the Church…” Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys reminds us; in that plot, each Region and Province sows its own seeds, but the care and harvest are the responsibility of all of us. Being ourselves, uniting our gifts and our hearts with the great heart of God: this is the invitation that springs forth today for life to flourish wherever the Spirit dreams it.

Let us walk with hope, sowing together from the heart of God, so that justice and love may bear abundant fruit.
