JPIC (Justice peace and Integrity of Creation) Visit to Cape Breton
I am so honoured to be reflecting on spending last week visiting and giving presentations to Sisters and Associates in Sydney, Nova Scotia. I was received with the full hospitality I’ve come to know as an essential part of Visitation Province. At Holy Redeemer Convent, I was privileged to present as a part of the Associates’ retreat. I was energized by the spirited discussion and engagement the group had for JPIC issues, both global and local to their community, including single use plastics and recycling. At Parkland Cape Breton, I presented to the Sisters, who were also eager to engage as we began fruitful discussions about how these JPIC issues can be tackled in our daily lives and local contexts. I was also able to visit with some of the Sisters at the Health Care Centre and was touched by their welcoming spirit and continued hospitality. I am deeply grateful to Eleanor McCloskey, Dianne, and Marjorie for their assistance in planning and transportation as well as their knowledge and wisdom in working together to achieve this visit. As we anticipate the release of the new encyclical today, I am feeling renewed in my commitment to working for integral ecology, and that has been bolstered by the continued spirit and passion of the sisters and associates I have met on my visits.
With grace, peace and solidarity,
