Letter delivered to the general management of Marianopolis College

Montréal, June 21, 2023

Dear Students,

Teachers,

Parents,

and staff members of Marianopolis College,

It was with great emotion that Les Soeurs de la Congrégation de Notre-Dame has agreed to sell the Marianopolis College building and grounds to the non-profit organization that manages Marianopolis College, whose decision-making body is its Board of Governors.

Today, we have made public our intention to leave the Villa Maria Domain within the next seven years as the task of managing this vast domain is proving far too onerous for our community, whose average age is over 86. We must, therefore, turn this page in history, but we wish to do so with respect for our educational mission and all our partners.

That is why we are happy to say that the institutional succession of Marianopolis College is being organized. The students, teachers and staff of the College will not be affected by the real estate transaction which will take place over the next few months, and the College will become the owner of the premises it has occupied for several decades.

This transition is an eloquent testimony to the quality of the management of the educational institution and its ability to be sustainable, autonomous, and fully assume its teaching mission for the next century.

The Congrégation de Notre-Dame founded Marianopolis College in 1908 and helped shape the future of the thousands of students. It is now entrusting you, students, teachers, staff and parents, with continuing its mission of liberating education, encompassing humanity and educational excellence.

We have a long-standing history with this institution, and we fondly pay tribute to the sisters who contributed to it. We also thank all of you for your contribution to the continuation of the educational heritage of Marianopolis College, and we wish its students success and happiness in their life’s journey.

Sœur Ona Bessette, CND

General Superior of Les Soeurs de la Congrégation de Notre-Dame
