Memories/slices of life A Special Holiday Season

I remember very well, in the late 60s, the good times we used to have around the holidays. I lived at Collège de Bellevue in Quebec City, and I belonged to Province Sacré-Coeur, also known as the province of “Good Humour.” Sister Fernande Bélisle, our provincial leader, generously contributed to this spirit of conviviality.

Between Christmas and New Year’s Day, or Three Kings Day, we would visit each other from house to house. Depending on the date chosen, at suppertime we would gather in one community for an aperitif, in another for soup, in another for the main course and in a final one for dessert. All these visits were punctuated by Christmas carols and sharing on what we were living.

These visits, repeated from year to year, helped us to get to know each other better, to develop bonds between us, and to share more effectively when we came together for a provincial meeting or a working committee.

Thinking back to those delightful moments together keeps me in a state of gratitude.
