National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On Sunday, Sept. 26th the faith community of Toronto was invited to celebrate the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at St. Ann’s Parish, the “Native People’s Mission.” Fr. Wilson Andrade, CSC, presided at the Eucharist with Readings and Songs in a variety of languages: Cebuano, Ojibway and English. Sr. Petite Lao, RNDM, had prepared the liturgy and shared with the Assembly her reflection on the “Filipino Catholics and the Challenges of the Truth and Reconciliation Process in Canada.” This thesis project is ‘an action research’ that aims to explore with the Filipino Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Toronto the shaping of a social justice education program that is culturally relevant. It is the hope that educational resources become more meaningful and relatable to them given that the history of Filipino immigration is relatively current.
