Development and Peace
Development and Peace supports projects in the Global South and raises awareness in Canada of the unacceptable realities faced by many populations. I am increasingly aware of the urgent need to tackle the deep structural causes of these situations (inequality, injustice, exclusion…) and I have a better understanding of the interdependence that exists between the Global South and the Global North.
In Sherbrooke, given the scale of the “asylum seeker” phenomenon, a Refugee Welcoming Committee (made up of lay people and people delegated by the Archdiocese or religious communities) was set up. As a member of this committee, I realize the immensity and diversity of the needs. I am overwhelmed by the courage, resilience and quality of these brothers and sisters, and I am also learning to read on their faces the intensity of their suffering and the depth of their hopes. Some members of this committee took part in the gathering, which enabled us to nurture the evangelical “common dream” that we all share, so that every person may have a place at the Table of universal solidarity where they can share bread, words and Life.

Event at Maison du citoyen de Pointe-aux-Trembles – June 3
Sr. Danielle Dubois and Sr. Lise Desrochers were invited on June 3 to the site of Maison du citoyen de Pointe-aux-Trembles (formerly Couvent de la Congrégation de Notre-Dame / Pensionnat Notre-Dame-de-la-Trinité) for the ceremony to reinstate the statue of Marguerite Bourgeoys and the reproduction of the cross in their original location.
Sr. Danielle took the floor to recall the history of the site and expressed her joy at seeing these monuments again, which bear witness to Marguerite Bourgeoys’s major involvement in education in Quebec.
