LENTEN REFLECTION PROGRAM
The Congregation de Notre Dame Associates and parishioners at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Hayesville, North Carolina had an opportunity to participate in a six-week Lenten reflection program utilizing Barbara Lee’s book P raying Through Pain. Each chapter had a different topic to pray with via a variety of scripture passages that included reflection questions which we shared in pairs or small groups in our weekly meetings. Spiritual director, Barbara McGrattan, facilitated the group and supplied supplemental materials as well. Participants voiced what they shared freely and without judgment about what was going on in their lives since the atmosphere felt like a safe haven. It was a big commitment to meet for 6 straight weeks since we are all elderly, but they enjoyed the different perspectives on topics, they learned how to pray in a variety of ways, and they liked the confidentiality. We look forward to future engagements of faith sharing!
