JPIC Core Committee Meeting

Wednesday, September 28.

Members met by ZOOM to do a “catch-up” since our May meeting.

  1. We were pleased to note that 40 Sisters and Associates took part in the second session of Listening to Indigenous Voices. It was much appreciated and the next session is scheduled for October 18.
  2. On Wednesday, October 12 we will continue the work around becoming a Blue Community. We had begun with a presentation by Paul Baines, CSJ Blue Community Program Manager, and Sister Anne Karges, CSJ. We hope many will be able to join in this project focused on water issues, especially since water has so recently seriously impacted so many in Atlantic Canada.

The Letter

On October 4, YouTube Originals will release the grand documentary film, The Letter, telling the story of the Laudato Si’ encyclical letter and the unfolding ecological emergency. It’s the fruit of a few years of work of Laudato Si’ Movement.

Pope Francis is the film’s star. He generously spent time with Laudato Si’ Movement during the production, sharing his deep wisdom. Moreover, other voices are also featured, representing the peripheries of the ecological crisis. Their in-person dialogue with the Pope, in particular, was priceless.

As the film powerfully explains, the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor are growing increasingly desperate. Droughts, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, deforestation—they all keep getting worse and worse.

The film will premiere in Vatican City on October 4, the Feast of St. Francis that  closes the Season of Creation.
