World Water Day at Andrews of Charlottetown

Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is the official development organization of our Canadian Catholic Church. D&P aims to educate Canadians about the causes of poverty and injustice, and to call us to act to bring about change.

D&P self-describes as a “democratic movement for international solidarity that supports partners in the Global South in the pursuit of alternatives to unjust social, political and economic structures.”

This year’s Lenten campaign, People and Planet First, is seeking help to protect vulnerable communities, ecosystems and watersheds from corporate abuse by outside companies. The lived experiences of D&P partners demonstrates that existing measures are not preventing human and environmental abuses around the world. We want the obligation to prevent human rights violations to be legally binding. People and Planet First means… “a different kind of economy: one that brings life not death, one that is inclusive and not exclusive, humane and not dehumanizing, one that cares for the environment and does not despoil it.” Pope Francis.

Green Party!

The residents of Andrews celebrated St. Patrick in various and fun ways last week. Our Director of Activities, Rita Dehaan, planned several interesting and delightful events that promoted a lively interest in St. Patrick and all things Irish.

Through arm chair travel and the use of video, we visited much of Ireland, sang Irish songs and, on the day itself we were served delicious refreshments.

As CNDs, we supplemented all of this by a special Evening Prayer, led by Sister Mary Gillis, and a social hour during which we enjoyed Irish songs and delicious treats.

Earth Hour 2022: Saturday, March 26th,

8:30-9:30 your local time (or substitute another time).

Earth Hour is a worldwide one-hour event occurring every year in March. The idea of this hour on this day is to unite people all across the globe in thinking about energy use and overuse. We all want to save the planet. This day originated with the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) and encourages people to turn off – for ONE hour – their non-essential electric components as well as their lights. The hope is that this experience will help us think more about our energy consumption and make efforts to use less energy.

Happy Birthday!

On Monday, March 21st, a wonderful celebration took place at the CND Health Center. Sister Catherine MacPhee celebrated her 107th Birthday. We celebrated with song, prayer and cake. Lots of wishes and visitors came her way. It was a great day for Sister Catherine.

Blanket Exercise

I am a trained Blanket Exercise Facilitator and have had opportunity to work with many incredible Elders/Knowledge Keepers.

They have been my teachers along the way and it has been a humbling experience to be involved. In schools, parishes and communities, I learn something new each time. All who participate leave wanting to know more in this shared journey.
