Musings for the Moment: Special Ukrainian Prayer for Lent
Nancy Sylvester, IHM Institute for Communal Contemplation & Dialogue
As we begin this Lenten season our hearts are heavy with the escalating violence that President Putin is inflicting on the people of Ukraine. These days watching the suffering of the women, children, young men and old, I feel so powerless…
I invite everyone to take 15-minutes each Wednesday during Lent at 12:00 Eastern Time to sit in contemplation with the specific intent for peace for the world and particularly for the Ukrainian people.

Prayer Vigil for Ukraine; May Peace Prevail on Earth, a global movement striving to “inspire and re-awaken the inherent human consciousness of love, peace and harmony”, on March 5th produced on Facebook and other sites a “Synchronized Prayer Vigil” for Ukraine, for Russia and for humanity. The vigil took place in Poland at the border of Ukraine. An Episcopal Franciscan priest opened the vigil with
the singing of “What A Wonderful World”, after which, having been reminded of the second World War “BIG BEN SILENT MINUTE”, there was a silent minute, followed by the tolling of a Tibetan Bell twelve times with silence in between. After the bell tolling, three Ukrainian people, a young woman, her grandmother and a Ukrainian man, now living in New York, shared their sense of how much our peacemakers need prayer and that, no matter who or where we are, we need to be “speaking the language of peace”. The presentation ended with this MANTRA OF UNIFICATION
We seek to love, not hate We seek to heal, not hurt Let vision and insight come Let Peace and Love prevail. Perhaps we could all pray this Mantra.

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise, our current project, is proceeding with interest and enthusiasm. We are always energized to visit on ZOOM to plan together to carry forward the work of JPIC in our province.
Eleanor McCloskey, for JPIC Core Committee
"The KAIROS Blanket Exercise was a very powerful experience for me – an eye-opener, a deep realization of the tragedy of colonization. We experienced a new kind of teaching tool. It took place in an atmosphere of respect. I will never forget it. Like many Canadians, I knew next to nothing of the true history of our country and the terrible injustice toward our Indigenous Peoples."
Marilyn von Zuben, CND
As mentioned in recent weeks, JPIC has arranged for a session of the Virtual KAIROS Blanket Exercise in hopes of furthering reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. Spaces are filling-up, but there’s still room!

Could there be any better way to approach Palm Sunday and Holy Week!
