Illuminated Advent

The Advent Retreat offered by Jan Richardson began Sunday, December 3.

It’s not too late to join, if you wish to share in this experience. Participants receive an email on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Each time, we have gentle music, a short reflection, and a song. A discussion group is available to anyone who chooses that. Contact me if you wish to come on the journey with us!

Traditionally the season of Advent has been a time of preparation for the celebration of Christ Incarnate.

The webinar presentation explores the biblical portrait of the incarnation through an evolutionary lens. Embracing Deep Incarnation, we are invited to renew our kinship with and advocacy for creation. For more information and to register please visit https://relforcon.org/webinars

FOLLOW-UP from RENEW Toronto 2023

As you already know, at the beginning of November, a few of us CNDs were present at a CND booth at the RENEW Toronto 2023 event. At our table, we held a raffle. The prizes were: 3 invitations to a “Spaghetti dinner” with some CNDs; an invitation to the Come and See event to be held at our Mother House the last weekend of May 2024; and an icon. On Saturday, Dec. 2, the three winners of the first prize, Deborah, Sylvia and Leslie, were treated to a delicious spaghetti dinner prepared by Sr. Joan Lewis. Srs. Marg Paterson and Jo Badali helped to welcome the young women. Sr. Karen Kelly was visiting in the area, so she joined us, too. Joan had prepared some personal information questions to break the ice . . . and a home-made version of “Family Feud”! The conversation was interesting and touched several spheres inclauding: consecrated life; faith challenges today; family life, Marguerite Bourgeoys and the spirituality and charism of the Congregation. We will continue to try to find ways to connect with these women. Thank you for your prayerful support.

Jo Badali, CND

Movie Recommendation: “The Holdovers” is a bittersweet comedy-drama set in 1970 in a New-England boarding school for boys. The Holdovers refers to the few who must remain at the school over the Christmas holidays. The story revolves around a grumpy, unpopular teacher, a rebellious teenager and an African-American cook who has recently lost her son in the Vietnam war. As the story unfolds much is learned about their personal stories and the unlikely bonding which occurs. Some may find some of the language offensive.
