A Celebration of Thanksgiving in Charlottetown

On April 26, the CND Sisters residing at Andrews of Charlottetown gathered in thanksgiving for Sr. Regina McQuaid, who recently retired from her ministry as Coordinator of Care and Daily Living. The community came together in prayer and celebration to bless and thank Regina for her service to the sisters. The prayer service was led by Sr. Ann Broderick and many words of thanks were offered by the sisters during the service. Sr. Noreen MacDonald stated that the words of appreciation could best be summed up by noting how blessed the sisters felt in receiving so much TLC (tender loving care) by Sr. Regina over the years in so many ways. The celebration continued afterwards with a happy hour followed by a pizza party! Thanks again, Sr. Regina, and may God shine God’s light and love upon you as you embark on a new journey.

Cape Breton Chorale celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding by Sister Rita Clare in 1973.

The year culminated in a celebratory weekend on May 3-4. A Gala Banquet and Concert saw the return of several Chorale alumni, among whom was Sister Elaine Hawrylak, who was a member of the Chorale for 42 years. The Special Convocation of Cape Breton University awarded the Honorary Degree, Doctor of Letters, Honoris Causa, to the Cape Breton Chorale, in recognition of its contribution to the cultural life of Cape Breton. Each of the members received their own copy of the Degree. The contributions of the CND and of Sister Rita were fondly commemorated both at the banquet and during the anniversary concert, “Our Shining Night,” which took place in the beautiful venue of the former Sacred Heart Church. Several letters of congratulation were read during the concert, among which was one from Sister Becky McKenna. Holy Angels Convent was the home of the Chorale until its closure in 2011. I am proud to be a member of this great chorus and hope to continue singing.
