No Room
"Listen, I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice
and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together." (Revelations 3:20)
Have you ever thought of Jesus looking for a place
to stay, asking for hospitality feeling rejected
or who wonders if his close friends would also leave Him?
And finally not even having a burial place?
Jesus was "A man like us in all things but sin."
Right from His birth we read " And she brought forth
her firstborn Son, laid Him in a manger, because there was
no room for them in the inn" (Luke 2: 7)
Have you wondered why there was no place in the inn?
Do I ask myself at the end of the day if I have made space for Jesus?
As I pass the beggar on the street do I question where s/he
will sleep tonight.
"Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man
has no place to lay His head (Matt. 8: 19-20)
Where is the place I desire to lay my head?
"There was reclining on Jesus breast one who Jesus loved" ( John 13:23)
At the same time the scribes boasted "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go"
As I reflect on this conversation what is my response?
I have felt rejected at times, do I have a sense of being
in solidarity with Jesus and so many others?
"Jesus asked: Do you want to leave too?" (John 6: 67)
I also recall Jesus questioned three times if He was loved:
"Simon Son of John, do you love me?"
How do I respond to Jesus who desires my love?
Finally Jesus was buried in a tomb given to Him by another.
Joseph risked everything in asking Pilate for the body of Jesus.
What am I willing to risk as I read again about the man who was like me in
all things but sin? Yes, He is knocking at my door with an invitation
