Official visit to the Notre-Dame-des-Apôtres Region – 4_5 KUMBO

Kumbo is a ghost town on Mondays, as everyone stays home for their own safety. The workweek starts on Tuesday and goes to Saturday.

We had the pleasure of meeting with the bishop of Kumbo, Msgr. George Nkuo, and the dream team of the Kumbo Justice and Peace Commission, under the direction of our very own Sister Marthe Falie Minkoué Nzié.

We also visited the rehabilitation centre that is currently under construction. The centre will welcome victims of human trafficking, women and girls who have suffered domestic violence, war victims and people displaced by conflicts.

The rehabilitation and reintegration centre for young people, in particular young women.

We were also enthusiastically welcomed by the children of the Library and primary school run by the sisters of Kumbo. The resilience, faith and hope of these people is inspiring. Their children are returning to school after seven years, and everything needs to be rebuilt.

The Kumbo Community Library is an ongoing project by Sister Catherine Molloy.

The teachers and students of the Sainte Marguerite Bourgeoys Bookstore on Saturday for remedial education.

We also had a wonderful meeting with the associates of Kumbo. It was an incredible visit.

Here, we were invited to dance!

It was a packed Saturday! In the short time we were there, we were able to meet and share with many people.

In the evening, the religious communities of Kumbo came to meet and thank Sisters Augustine and Falie, shown here.

Sunday

We celebrated the Eucharist with the Catholic community of Tobin very early in the morning. There was a two-hour mass with songs, dances and a wonderful welcome from the entire Christian community of Kumbo. Our time in Kumbo is over. We are on the 14-hour journey back to Yaoundé, and, on Monday, we will head to Meyomessala.
