Official visit to the Notre-Dame-des-Apôtres Region – 6_7 MEYOMESSALA
The members of the Council arrived in Meyomessala late yesterday afternoon.
After a small snack, we visited the new employee camp of the Complexe scolaire bilingue Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys. The camp was built thanks to a donation from the General Council, who wanted to ensure that the teachers and support staff had a safe and comfortable place to live. The locals named the site Qatar. When we asked them why they chose this name, one of them told us that it was because last year’s FIFA world cup took place in Qatar. The completed camp felt like a new, wonderful country to them. They chose the name Qatar because of the beauty and comfort of the camp and, especially, because of its access to clean water. They were all very happy with the place and grateful to the General Council. They go to work in the morning in a state of “peace and tranquility,” knowing that, when they come home from school, they won’t be kicked out of their home by landlords…
It is important to note that this place is reserved for teachers who live alone. The apartments are very small and can only accommodate one person, certainly not an entire family.
The Notre-Dame-des-Apôtres Region has applied to other organizations requesting the construction of at least five apartments large enough to house a small family in the Complexe scolaire bilingue Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys in Meyomessala. The Region hopes that it will receive the necessary funding for this, because renting is difficult in this region, and the treatment of tenants by landlords is deplorable.
