ROOTS and FRUITS: Growing Together for the Life of the World

At the generous invitation of our Western Associate Coordinator Teresa McKerral, Associates from the East, Central and Western regions of Canada were privileged to participate in a thought provoking and challenging virtual gathering on Nov. 19 and 20. Through the use of videos, quiet times of reflection and focused conversations we explored the theme of Roots and Fruits: Growing Together for the life of the World.

We considered the beauty and complexity of the trees in the forest and from that contemplation we explored as Associates the links to our life in Associate Relationship. We learned that we all come from deep roots of faith born from our families and communities and, that we are nourished and strengthened by prayer, the Sacraments as well as the gift of Associate Relationship.

Like the trees in the forest and the Gospel parables of the fig tree and the vine, we too need to change, to adapt and sometimes even be pruned to encourage new growth. Determining what needs to be let go of and what to keep, is challenging as we often cling to what we know but new growth offers us opportunity to "see and be" in a way that is life giving way.

Sincere thanks to all who participated and for the wonderful leadership shown by Teresa McKerral our host and Ann Gotfryd our facilitator.
