The Congregation mother house kitchen gets a makeover in accordance with the 8r’s!
In a very impressive way, and thanks to excellent maintenance, some of the Mother house kitchen appliances have had a lifespan that has far exceeded the norm. Even so, the kitchen had to be rebuilt because some of the equipment and aspects of the facilities were outdated.
We reused everything we could. This is the case of the kitchen hood, which has not been moved and whose ducts have been "rejuvenated". Some items, such as shelves, were redistributed and found a new use elsewhere in the Mother house. Others, such as the old oven, will be donated to organizations that need them and can give them a second life.
When equipment had to be replaced, this was done with a view to efficiency and reducing our energy consumption. This is the case of the brand-new dishwasher, which recovers the steam from the last cycle to heat water. In addition, it generates much less steam, which avoided having to add a second hood.
Some of the modifications will help optimize the use of resources. For example, the freezer space has been reduced in favour of a cold room. This requires more frequent purchases, however, this reduces losses because of an increased ease in inventory management.
In addition to these improvements in respect of our environmental values, the kitchen has been fitted out to make the work of the kitchen team easier and safer, in accordance with our human values. The space is now more ergonomic, reducing the risk of injuries. The personnel is very happy with it.
