Thy Will Be Done

"I am the handmaid of the Lord.

Be it done to me according to your word" (Luke 1: 37-38)

She stands a woman of courage open and receptive I hear her words "THY WILL BE DONE"

These words open for Mary a life which she could never have imagined; one blessed with happiness as well as a life of great sorrow.

Is that not my life too when I am open to God’s plan for me?

The angel delivered the message from God then departed from her.

She couldn't have known all that being the mother of God entails.

Is there someone who has been a bearer of God's message to me recently?

How do I respond when someone tells me “You have found favor in the Lord” and that through you, something miraculous will happen?

“Each of you should use whatever gifts you have

received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms (16:1 Peter4:10)

Gazing upward my eyes focus on Mary’s open arms.

Arms that opened as she greeted her cousin Elizabeth, with great joy. Arms which held her new born child.

Arms that gave over her child to Simeon and heard the words "This child is destined for the falling and rising of many————————————– and a sword will pierce your own soul too."

Arms that embraced her found child in the temple. As I contemplate these experiences of Mary

What impact do they have on me? When do my arms reach out to others?

I finally see these arms holding the dead body of her crucified Son. Did she again hear the words of Simeon echoing in her pieced heart? I imagine what Mary is pondering in her heart at this time.

A deep sorrow engulfs her spirit.

I look inside myself and see how I am feeling at this moment.

I stay with Mary empty, open and receptive reviewing in my mind and heart moments of happiness and sorrow.
