TOGETHER for the LIFE of the WORLD
Press Release – for immediate distribution
Montreal, July 6, 2021
The Sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame de Montréal will gather virtually in General Chapter this summer, from July 26 to August 14, 2021. The meeting, which was initially set to be held at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, will take place by videoconferencing. The delegates will discuss the major orientations of the Congregation for the next five years as well as elect a new Leadership Team.
This 98th General Chapter represents a technological challenge: the presentation of video reports, dubbed in the different languages spoken in the Congregation (French, English, Japanese and Spanish), virtual meetings in small and large groups with simultaneous interpretation gathering delegates located in six different time zones, and online liturgies and prayers. This chapter was planned in accordance with the guidelines established by the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life on the use of telematic means for virtual chapters.
A high point in the life of the community, the meeting held under the theme “TOGETHER for the LIFE of the WORLD” is a sign of hope and a call to deepen the Mission Orientations that lead the sisters and associates of the Congregation to the peripheries, in support of vulnerable populations and our planet. Thus, the sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame have been responding for nearly 350 years to the needs of the Church and society, adapting to new realities, faithfully rooted in the charism of their foundress Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys.
