Unity Retreat

On May 21st the fifth graders of St Martin de Porres Academy went to Quonnie for a “Unity Retreat”. They were welcomed by Sr Ann Perrin and accompanied by the Social Work Team of the school. The fifty degree weather did not bother the students as they ran down to the water, explored the beach, gingerly got their feet wet and searched the rocks.

After hearing the history of Quonochautaug, the Inn and the CND vacation home, the students went on a tour of the house. Remarks such as, “there are crucifixes in every bedroom”, “you really keep this place good”, “when can we sign up to come again?” were heard.

This was a day to experience unity among ourselves, with all those who walked this land before us and with Mother Earth. After a silent walk on the beach one student remarked she never knew that she likes silence. The students and staff were very happy and very appreciative. It was a day not to be forgotten and hopefully part of a SMPA yearly experience for the class of 2033.
